CHAPTER 16
Bondage? Dahlia swallowed too quickly and used her napkin to wipe her lips. What? Correct. She was not into bondage. How had Piper heard such a personal detail about Zee?
Zee had actually mentioned kinks while they were at her apartment. Could that have been a coincidence? Maybe he was actually wanting to be tied to the bedpost? The way people joked about fantasies they really wanted but couldnât admit. Nope, heâd actually been pretty straightforward and clear. âHeâs not.â
âHow do you know?â Calista gestured to her own jersey. âIf you havenât even gotten Zeeâs shirt off?â She looked at Piper. âThe bondage happens after the clothes come off, right?â
Piper slapped her arm. âI wouldnât know.â They both tilted their heads and nodded at the same time with the precision of sisters.
âMakes sense though, logistically.â Calista smiled. âYou did need help with mechanics.â She looked pleased. âClothes come off first, or the binds would get in the way of taking them off later.â
Dahlia refrained from banging her head on the table and dipped a salted edamame pod into the ginger soy with enough force to make the dark-red sauce spill.
âWhat are you talking about?â Ronan asked.
All three of their heads popped up and swiveled toward the masculine voice belonging to Ronan Stromkin, their teamâs captain and Calistaâs boyfriend. He stood behind Calistaâs chair. Dahlia had been so into the conversation she hadnât even noticed him come into the restaurant.
âMechanics,â Calista said.
âOh.â Ronan squatted beside Calista and kissed her cheek. âIâm early to pick you up.â
Calista wiggled and smiled at him. She offered him a bite of her pepper steak with her chopsticks. He parted his lips and she fed him a piece.
âWant to pull up a chair?â Piper asked.
âI actually ate earlier.â Ronan checked his watch and looked at Calista. âWill you hate me if we need to box that up? Coach has us on a rigid schedule, and I want to take you home.â
Calista shook her head, and they were boxed up and out of there in five, leaving Dahlia alone with Piper.
âLove them together,â Dahlia said.
Piper nodded. âNever would have expected her fan-crush to actually be her soulmate.â
âLucky her.â
They both giggled.
Dahlia wrinkled her nose. âI love that they are close, but I hope she doesnât share everything we spoke about.â
âI donât see that happening.â Piper leaned in. âI want to know more about you and Zee.â
Dahlia opened her palms and bit her lip.
âIf you matched and worked out, that would be wonderful.â Piperâs expression turned somber. âBut complicated if you donât. I so prefer you over his ex. She was a big B. But of course, your happiness matters more.â She lowered her voice so it was quieter. âTell me about the kiss. I mean, a kiss that ranked less than a five, donât bother. If heâs all that, you could work on him. But if heâs mixed messages and a low score, yikes.â She assessed Dahliaâs face and arched her eyebrows. âI see. He did better than a five.
